Business
Parramatta is the location of choice for businesses that require a central location to service their customers.
It is just 24 kilometres from the Sydney CBD and offers convenient access by road, car, bus and rail to its CBD.
Its annual gross regional product is estimated at nearly $9 billion which represents more than three percent of the total value of NSW production.
As a full service city, Parramatta has been a first choice for leading global businesses such as Coca Cola, Amatil, Shell and Pfizer.
Public sector organisations with a significant presence in the city also include the NSW Police Service, the Office of State Revenue, Department of Fair Trading, the Attorney General’s Department and the Australian Tax Office.
Population,
Parramatta has a population of 152,000 residents and it is the twelfth largest local government area in NSW. By 2026 the city's population is expected to grow to 178,000.
As well as residents, around 86,530 people work in area – 38,000 of whom work in the Parramatta CBD (2001 Census).
The Civic Place Project
On 21 July 2006 Parramatta City Council signed a Public Private Partnership with Grocon Developments to revitalise 3.5 hectares of the CBD.
The $1.4 billion Civic Place Project is one of the largest urban renewal projects undertaken outside the Sydney CBD. It is due for completion by 2014.
On completion, Civic Place will feature environmentally sustainable design, European style piazzas, art house cinemas, a new media gallery and library, and outstanding community facilities.
This exciting and massive revitalisation of the Parramatta CBD will build on the success of the recently completed Parramatta Transport Interchange and the expansion of Westfield Parramatta.
