Parramatta Peer Support provides recreation and social activities in the community for adults with a disability People get to socialise and enjoy new experiences. The service can also provide respite for carers.
Peer Support service offers the person with a disability an opportunity to participate in community based recreation activities in a group situation. This allows the person to broaden their experience, and friendships and can provide regular respite for families. Examples of activities: Theatre, movies, dinner, sporting activities.
People who are eligible for this service must:
The activities occur after hours (in the evenings from 5:30pm) on Tuesday nights (for people with physical disabilities) and Thursday nights (for people with intellectual disabilities) and one Saturday (day outing) a month for both groups.
People are required to pay their own expenses, including admission to venues and meals. In addition a service fee is charged to the participant each time they attend. The service fee is billed weekly (page 26).
Peer Support receives funding from state and federal Government through the Home and Community Care Program administered by the Department of Ageing Disability and Homecare.
