Volunteers
Volunteers are essential for Council to operate many of it’s services for people who are older or have a disability. The Home Support and Community Services section includes 170 volunteers across a range of valued roles such as:
- Neighbour Aid Volunteer - providing companionship and social support to isolated residents
- Meals On Wheels Volunteer - to deliver meals as the driver or helper on the delivery run
- Seniors’ Leisure and Learning Centre Volunteer – to help on the reception desk or to run classes if you have a skill in an area or craft
Why volunteer?
People volunteer for a variety of reasons including to:
- give back to the community
- work for social change
- gain work experience
- learn new skills
- help others
- meet other people
- have fun
- develop self confidence
- overcome boredom
Definition of Volunteering – formal volunteering is an activity which takes place through not for profit organisations to be of benefit to the community and the volunteer, be of the volunteers own free will and without coercion, without financial gain and carried out in designated volunteer positions only.
Parramatta City Council offers volunteers orientation, monthly training, volunteer recognition activities and a supportive and caring environment.
