Celebrate Your Place – Movie in The Park Sturt Reserve, Telopea
19th April 2007
In support of 2007 Youth Week activities, a special Movie in the Park was held in April 2007, with a large number of family groups and young people attending a screening of “Ice Age 2”.
A local bushband got the chilly evening off to a great start with community dancing in the park, and a number of short films were shown, in community languages: Korean, Chinese and Arabic.
Then everyone snuggled down with Hot Chocolate from the CafeMobile and a sausage sandwich from the Dundas-Carlingford Lions Club, who were raising money for a new local service.
The event was a great success, attracting many local families, including families who attend Wazza's Café in Shortland Street on a Thursday night. In fact, it was "Wazza's in the Park" that night as well!

Thanks must go to Dundas Area Neighbourhood Centre whose volunteers assisted, Dundas Area Youth Service who also supported with volunteers, Telopea Family Support Services and especially to the Department of Housing, who contributed to the costs of the movie hire. Thanks to all!
Council’s Community Capacity Building Team also used the event as an opportunity to actively engage in discussion with residents regarding the local assets and strengths within their community and also their dreams for their neighbourhood. A number of face-to-face surveys were conducted with local residents and of these, around 25 people expressed an interest to work with Council and its community partners to develop positive local solutions to locally-identified issues and to generate opportunities for ‘community spirit’ activities in the area.
The CCB Team is currently organising local ‘Neighbourhood Group’ meetings in Telopea and also in Epping in October 2007. We are keen to continue working alongside local residents and community service providers who wish to work with us on developing and implementing activities for their local community.
If you would like to be involved in future ‘Celebrate Your Place’ activities, or Neighbourhood Group meetings, please contact the Community Place Development Officer for the Toongabbie area, George Mannix, on 9806 5112 or email gmannix@parracity.nsw.gov.au.
