This page has information about the places in the two North-East wards of Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA). These two ward areas are known as Elizabeth Macarthur ward and Lachlan Macquarie ward, and include (in whole or in part) the suburbs of Epping, Eastwood, Carlingford, Telopea, Oatlands, Ermington, Rydalmere, Dundas Valley, Dundas, Harris Park, Rosehill and Camellia.
In many ways each of these suburbs is a distinct neighbourhood, with its own history, character and communities.
Council wishes to build on the strengths of these unique ’places’ and is keen to develop a “portrait” of each place with the involvement and contribution of the local community.
We invite your comments, ideas or information to be included on these web pages. This could be in the form of information on local events, local community groups, stories and memories that celebrate pride in your neighbourhoods.
Fairs, festivals, street parties, performances, forums, exhibitions and all kinds of community events are important ways we come together in our communities.
Your ideas for creating community spirit projects in your place are always welcome. Use the "Let us know" form
The level of community spirit in a community, builds opportunities for communication between residents, focussing on similarities rather than divisions within a community. Council has endorsed important initiatives to build community spirit in order to promote more supportive, connected and safer neighbourhoods by encouraging residents to get to know their neighbours and to show pride in the area in which they live.
Building local pride in a community supports the community to be involved in issues, activities and assets which can lead to local advocacy and community action on locally-identified needs.
Your ideas for creating community spirit projects in your place are always welcome, and we are also seeking out some examples – stories – where real ‘community spirit’ arises from our local communities. Use the "Let us know form"
The Telopea Connections is a group of agencies, organisations and Church groups who are all active in the Telopea area.
The group meets about very six weeks to look at how they can work together to improve services, and develop some joint projects and activities.
The group has met three times since the Movie night earlier in the year and is planning more local celebrations. Look out for announcements on this page, and keep some time free during the October school holidays for celebrations and activities for kids and young people.
The Community Capacity Building (CCB) model is about building long term, lasting partnerships between Council, other services and local residents.
Your ideas for possible partnership opportunities in your place are always welcome, and we are also seeking out some examples where partnerships in the community have made a difference.
Use our "Let us know" form to submit your ideas and proposals.
Parramatta City Council (PCC) has recently begun a series of consultations, meetings and workshops to look at options for better managing graffiti in the area, with a special focus on Telopea, Dundas and Ermington.
On August 22, a community worker from Newcastle City Council, Barney Langford, visited the Telopea Community Centre and spoke to a group of key stakeholders about the policies and the results of the graffiti management plans in Newcastle. Barney had some great stories to tell, and a number of practical ideas; a lively discussion ensued. We also heard from Narelle Caldwell of Dundas Area Youth Service, April Keogh, an artist with Rail Corp and an experienced graffiti artist named Matthew.
NSW Police and the Department of Housing attended, along with youth workers and local Councillors.
There will more consultations soon and residents will have a very important role to play in working together on this issue. If you would like more information on this project please contact:
