Celebrate Your Place – South Granville, WilliamLambPark
11 October 2006
Celebrate Your Place – South Granville was an event that encouraged the community of South Granville to comment on the Parramatta Twenty25 Plan which outlines the future plans for Parramatta. The Plan was on public display throughout October 2006. The residents and local businesses welcomed the opportunity both to learn more about Parramatta Twenty25 and give their comments to Council at this community event.

Approximately 1,000 residents enjoyed the event with parents, grandparents and children of all ages and cultural backgrounds present.
This event demonstrated Council’s and local residents’ ability to work together and strengthen community at a local or place level. The event also showed the existing community cohesion that is present in South Granville across all ages and cultural backgrounds and how Council can work alongside residents to build strong and sustainable neighbourhoods.
The event resulted in partnerships being formed between local residents and Council: residents requested to work with Council to form a Residents’ Group to plan, organise and run the second ‘Celebrate Your Place’ event in 2007. This was driven by local residents with the assistance of Council’s Community Capacity Building Team and other community partners (see Celebrate Your Place 2 – South Granville)
Fairs, festivals, street parties, performances, forums, exhibitions and all kinds of community events are important ways we come together in our communities to build community spirit and connections with other locals.
Over the coming months, we will be building a guide on these web pages to the many regular community events throughout your area, and also promoting any upcoming special community
