Celebrate Your Place – South Granville William Lamb Park

Following the success of the first Celebrate Your Place – South Granville event in October 2006, a second event was organised due to demand from residents and service providers.

Celebrate Your Place 2 – South Granville was attended by over 2000 local residents!! This was an increase of 100% from the first ‘Celebrate Your Place’ event held October 2006. Many local families enjoyed the event as it provided safe and fun activities for their children and also an opportunity for adults to socialise and talk with neighbours, building the ‘community spirit’ that currently exists in the diverse community that is South Granville. 

The event demonstrated a ‘whole of community’ approach to working together with the community: local primary schools, local businesses, local human service providers and local residents were actively involved in both planning and running the event. It also demonstrated that community spirit is alive and thriving in South Granville.

Council’s Community Capacity Building (CCB) Team used this event as an opportunity to talk with local residents about the local skills, knowledge and strengths within the local community and also their dreams for the future of their neighbourhood. 181 face-to-face surveys were conducted with local residents and  80 people expressed a commitment to working with Council and its community partners to develop positive local solutions to locally-identified issues and to generate opportunities for ‘community spirit’ activities in the area.

The CCB Team is currently organising a local ‘South Granville Neighbourhood Group’ to continue working with local residents and community service providers who are keen to develop and run activities for their local community.
