Pierre Esber Biography
Pierre Esber was elected as Councillor at Parramatta City Council in 1999 and was appointed Deputy Lord Mayor from 2001-2002. As a Councillor for Sydney’s ‘second CBD’ and one of the fastest growing cities in Australia, Pierre has a busy and challenging role in managing the diverse range of issues facing a major city. Pierre has also chaired Council’s Outcomes and Aquatic committee’s which were responsible for deciding the social, economic and environmental well being of Parramatta City.
Pierre is all too familiar with the needs of Parramatta City, being a local born at Parramatta hospital and educated at St Patrick’s Primary and Marist Brothers High. After leaving school, he studied plumbing at the local TAFE and then set up his own successful business that has been operating for the past 15 years. Pierre is married with three children who also attend schools in the local area and along with their red cattle dog ‘Sandy’, represent the community as a respected and hardworking family.
Pierre’s role as Councillor for Parramatta City Council is a demanding one, with a busy schedule of workshops, committees and Council meetings and the responsibility for determining the future of Parramatta City. Pierre has a particular interest in the Parramatta Civic Place Development Project, which will further develop Parramatta into a leading Commercial Business District. He is passionate about the benefits that will flow on from this project, especially in the development of improved infrastructure for the surrounding neighbourhoods and the creation of around 8,800 new jobs in the area.
Pierre’s role as Councillor also involves him in improving life for the more disadvantaged in our community by encouraging corporate organisations to have a ‘kinder heart’. Through being involved in many fundraising activities and the development of Parramatta Council’s Social plan, Pierre feels he has made a difference, but admits there is still a long way to go!. Pierre also takes a ‘hands on’ approach towards improving our environment. He recently received huge recognition in the media for a ‘water saving initiative’ he introduced to Council that will enable ratepayers to purchase rainwater tanks through a Council loan repayment scheme.
Pierre brings a wealth of experience to his role as Councillor and contributes his achievements so far to; his years of experience in managing his business and staff, the support of his constituents and friends and his keen interest in political history and Australian culture. Pierre never underestimates the importance of ‘family life’ and knows that the strong support he receives from his family is crucial to his successes. So when Pierre’s not busy serving the community, he’s spending his much valued time relaxing with family and friends or watching his favourite footy team ‘the Parramatta Eels’ play.
