As our city consolidates its position as the regional capital of Western Sydney it’s vital we push forward with integrated transport solutions to support Parramatta’s growth as a destination – not just a departure point.

That is why we have launched the Destination Parramatta campaign to highlight our growing concerns for transport infrastructure and put pressure on the Government to properly support our anticipated growth. With the support of the local business sector and workers we will be petitioning for integrated solutions to major transport issues.

Already, nearly 90,000 people come into the Parramatta area each day for work through a combination of road, rail, ferry and bicycle networks. With 30 new skyscrapers flagged for Parramatta by 2031 an additional 30,000 workers will be pouring into the Parramatta central business district and we must be able to draw on potential workers, not just from western Sydney, but also from the nearby inner west and the northern hills areas.

Central to our Destination Parramatta campaign are four strategic transport priorities;

• Funding of the West Metro which will see journey times from Five Dock, Leichhardt and Camperdown cut by up to 30 minutes
• Solution to completing the Chatswood to Parramatta Rail Link to bring workers from the North Shore
• Commitment to the creation of a RiverCat commuter service that brings workers to and from work in inner west areas such as Meadowbank, Breakfast Point and Abbotsford
• Strengthen existing transport networks to bring people from the northern hills area through a bus network and the restoration of the Cumberland line to bring people from the South West of Sydney

These solutions places Parramatta firmly as the demographic and geographic centre of Sydney and means workers and families will be saving money and spend less time commuting.

Public transport is a number one priority for the future of our city and for the future of western Sydney.
