Joining the Library

If you are 18 years of age or over you are required to fill in an application form and show proof of your name and current address eg. Driver’s licence or a current utility bill. Library cards, credit cards etc. are not sufficient identification.

If you are under 18 years of age you are required to have a parent or guardian sign your application form. Proof of their name and current address is required. If your parent/guardian is unable to be with you when you are joining, the library card will be posted out to the parent/guardian.

A current library membership card must be produced to borrow library items

How many items can you borrow?

You may borrow a total of 20 items.

• To ensure study resources are shared fairly, only 4 items on any one subject and a limit of 4 DVDs (including VCDs) can be borrowed by each family.
• Please report any item found in a damaged condition. Please note the library takes no responsibility for damage to your equipment when using library resources.
• Please ensure all sets and kits are kept together as a replacement charge will apply for the cost of the complete set.
• Any item that is lost, damaged or has parts missing will also incur a non-refundable processing charge.

Lost or Stolen Cards

If your card is lost or stolen please contact the library immediately. A replacement card can be obtained for a small fee upon showing identification.

Returns

All items borrowed have a due date by which they must be returned. While you have overdue items on your card you may NOT borrow further materials. An after-hours chute is available for returns at all Parramatta Libraries. Only items borrowed within the Parramatta Library Service can be returned to our Libraries. If items are not overdue they may be renewed through the Web Catalogue (see staff) or by Ph. 9806 5159.

Renewals

You are entitled to one extension provided the item is not already overdue either by phone, over the counter or through the Web Catalogue. Items cannot be renewed if someone else has reserved them. After an item has been renewed, the item must then be returned to stock for 14 days before it may be borrowed again by the same person.

Reservations and Inter-Library Loans

You can place Reservations for items currently on loan through the catalogue (OPAC) Web Catalogue or with staff assistance. These reservations are free. You will receive a notice when the item becomes available. The library is also able to obtain resources from other libraries throughout Australia (interlibrary loans).There is a small fee for this service which is non-refundable. There is a limit of 3 inter-library loans per person at any one time. At Parramatta Library please collect your reservations/Inter Library Loans from the Loans Desk.

Responsibilities as a Library Member

1. To take care of all items which you have borrowed including not writing in Library workbooks.
2. To return all items by their due date.
3. To pay for any lost, stolen or damaged items that have been issued on your card.
4. To ensure that no one else uses your card without your permission.
5. To behave in an appropriate manner while you are in the Library.
6. You are responsible for any items borrowed on your card.

Responsibility for Children

Children aged under 12 years must be supervised by a responsible person who is eighteen years of age or older. Appropriate supervision requires that this responsible person be within sight of their child at all times. For further information please refer to Guidelines for Using the Libraries.

Your Right to Privacy

Application for Library membership requires you to provide personal information. Application for Library membership requires you to provide personal information. Any personal information provided by you will be used by Council or its agents to process this application. The provision of this information is voluntary; however, if you do not provide the information, Council will be unable to process your application. Once collected by Council, the information can be accessed by you and may also be available to 3rd parties in accordance with Council’s Access to Information Policy.

Please inform the Library if your personal details change so that we can update our files. You will need to show identification.
