Dog Off-Leash Areas

Council actively promotes the benefits of pets and encourages responsible pet ownership through the provision of harmonious and equitable access to parks and open spaces for dogs and their owners. The provision of safe areas where dogs can exercise off-leash is becoming increasingly important with less residents across the city having access to large backyards. Regular off-leash exercise helps to relieve boredom and release the pent-up energy of dogs confined to smaller areas. It can also contribute to a reduction in nuisance behaviour such as uncontrolled barking. Council has installed clear signage and provides dog litter bag dispensers and bins at all of our designated off-leash parks. City rangers are actively working with the community to promote the principles of responsible dog ownership, however it is the responsibility of all users of dog off-leash areas to keep their dog/s under effective control and to clean-up after them using the facilities provided.
