North-West T-Way Cycleway Update
The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) are the responsible authority for the construction of the North West T-Way project including the cycleway component. They did not complete the missing section of the cycleway along Old Windsor Road between the Hammers Road/Ferndale Close intersection and the Hart Drive (Cumberland Highway) intersection.
This missing link of the cycleway has been subject to lengthy negotiations between Council and the RTA. The RTA have agreed in principle to pay Council to undertake the construction of the cycleway. This decision was based on several factors namely:
- The remainder of the North West T-Way has been completed and the contractor has moved on to other large projects;
- The most viable option for the location of the additional cycleway is via Ferndale Close through Harvey Murray Park in Kevin Street to the Cumberland Highway;
- Council has the resources to undertake the design, construction and management of the project.
Detailed design of the cycleway route has now been completed and approved by the RTA. However, the proposed route will involve the relocation of soundwalls located at the busy intersection of Old Windsor Road and the Cumberland Highway.
The required sound studies and plans for the relocation of the soundwalls have now been completed. Council is currently undertaking consultation with local residents regarding the soundwall relocation, and will be holding a consultation meeting on-site as per the following:
Date: Thursday 28th August
Time: 4pm
Location: Harvey Murray Park, Kevin St, Constitution Hill
