Draft Parramatta Local Environmental Plan – Community Update

Overview

Parramatta City Council has to plan for the future housing needs of its community. With Sydney’s population growing and the make up of households changing, the State Government requires that all Councils (including Parramatta City Council) accommodate a share of Sydney’s future housing needs.

Parramatta City Council has prepared a Residential Development Strategy (RDS) to set the general direction for the future location, density and character of housing throughout the Parramatta Local Government Area, such as where to locate future higher density housing like apartment buildings and townhouses and which areas should remain low density with single homes.

The RDS is a guiding policy for the preparation of Council’s new Local Environmental Plan (LEP).

All Councils in NSW are required to prepare a new draft LEP. The draft LEP guides land use and development by zoning all land, identifying the land uses that are allowed in each zone, and controlling development through other planning standards. Council must prepare the new draft LEP in a standardised format as required by the State Government for all Council’s in NSW.

The draft LEP will apply to all land with the exception of the Parramatta City Centre.View map of where the new LEP applies. To provide the community with an update on the draft LEP, the latest version of the draft LEP available to view. The draft LEP has not been endorsed by the NSW Department of Planning and the display is for information only. It is not a public exhibition for the purposes of the Environmental Planing and Assessment Act. There will be a series of stages, including a formal public exhibition and further changes to the plan before it is adopted by the NSW Minister for Planning and becomes law.
