Update on Parramatta Draft Local Environmental Plan

Overview

Like many councils in Sydney, Parramatta City Council has to plan for the future by considering where to accommodate housing growth to help provide for Sydney’s future increased population. For this reason, the State government requires Council to update its strategy of where it will accommodate this growth. Council’s strategy is to limit residential growth to areas with reasonable access to public transport and everyday services like shops, open space and community facilities.

In order to implement this strategy, Council has prepared the draft Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and draft Development Control Plan (DCP). The draft LEP is the planning document which regulates development through land use zones and development standards such as building height and maximum floor space per site (“floor space ratio”). The draft DCP contains the more detailed design guidelines and controls which support the LEP.

Where is the LEP up to now?

On Monday 23 March 2009, Council endorsed a revised LEP and Council staff are currently in the process of making the necessary amendments to the plan and maps in accordance with Council’s resolution. Council also resolved to conduct a series of drop-in information sessions to provide an update to the community, prior to the plan going out on formal public exhibition later in the year. This is being organised now and will likely take several weeks.

Prior to the information sessions, all property owners will be notified by letter and relevant information will be posted on this website.

Keep an eye on this site for further updates of where things are up to.
