Residential Development Strategy – Stage 2
In Stage 2 of the RDS, Parramatta City Council exhibited a booklet and produced an accompanying summary pamphlet which identified twenty-one “study areas” that could be investigated for redevelopment potential plus two other areas that, because of their size, configuration and location, also warranted consideration for redevelopment. The booklet discussed each study area in detail, focussing in particular on opportunities that support residential development, such as the availability of public transport, shops, open space, schools, child care and community facilities. The investigation of the "study areas" and other sites is summarised in the table below.
When preparing the exhibition material, Council decided to defer analysis of four "study areas" because of other works and studies being undertaken. The deferred areas were Old Toongabbie, Wentworthville, Northmead and Westmead.
Stage 2 of the RDS was exhibited between 24 October 2005 – 1 February 2006. Council received feedback from approximately 1250 stakeholders, including residents, State government and community organisations on a variety of issues including open space, community facilities, traffic, transport and parking, amenity, built character, social issues, community identity, infrastructure and safety.
A summary of the consultation results was reported to Council in March 2006. The feedback received was then used as the basis for the Stage 3 RDS work.
