Garbage Collection
- Please ensure bins are placed out the evening prior to collection as collection can occur anytime between 6am to 5pm
- For occupational health & safety reasons, please ensure your bins are placed correctly on the kerb with the lids closed.
- Your bin may not be collected if it is too heavy (more than 70 kilograms)

What is the Domestic Waste Charge?
All ratepayers within the Parramatta Council area incur an annual Domestic Waste Charge. The charge entitles each household to:
- Weekly domestic garbage bin collection, and fortnightly garden organics and recycling bin collections
- Four kerbside clean up a year (one per quarter)
- Supply and replacement of household bins
- Educational materials upon request
How is the Domestic Waste Charge Calculated?
The domestic waste charge is calculated based on a number of factors, including:
- The size of the garbage bin that the household is currently using.
- The amount Council is charged to tip domestic waste at landfill.
Single Unit Dwellings (SUDs) have the option to upsize their garbage bins from a 140L to 240L for an additional cost. The annual domestic waste charge in 2009/10 for 140L is $261.40 and $394 for a 240L bin.
Can I have additional bins?
Yes, additional garbage, recycling and garden bins can be requested by residents living in Single Unit Dwellings and Multi Unit Dwellings. (Charges may apply)
The charges for the 2009/10 for additional bins are as follows:
- Additional Garbage Bin - $261.40 ea
- Additional Recycling Bin - $75.90 ea
- Additional Garden Bin - $75.90 ea
- Upgrade of 140L Garbage Bin to a 240L Garbage Bin - $394.00
(Note: your old bin will be removed and replaced with a new 240L bin)
All requests must be made in writing by the owner or the body corporate/strata manager of the property and faxed or emailed as a scanned attachment to Council. The document must state the following:
- What is being requested
- Property detail
- Contact name and number(s)
- Signed off

Request to Cancel Existing Waste Service
The Residential waste service can only be cancelled if you are intending to demolish your dwelling. Development Application number for demolition and the Occupation Certificate must be provided as proof. If applicable, the owner must apply in writing.
Note: Vacant properties that do not have any occupants are not grounds for cancelling a residential waste service.
