Fridge Buyback Scheme
Parramatta City Council is proud to support the Fridge Buyback Scheme as a way of reducing energy use and its associated greenhouse gas emissions. Residents handing in their fridges will save, on average, over $190 per year on their energy bills, said Paul Barber Lord Mayor. In addition the refrigerant gas in the fridge will be properly removed, the metals in it recycled which will reduce greenhouse emissions by about 1 tonne per year.
Old fridges guzzle more electricity and inflate household energy bills, Paul Barber said.
As well as a free collection from their home, residents may also be eligible to receive a $35 rebate for handing in their fridge, Paul Barber Lord Mayor said. Conditions of eligibility includes the fridge must be older than 10 years and bigger than 250 litres, fees may apply if more than 6 stairs are involved.
Almost a third of Sydneys households have a second fridge State Climate Change Minister Verity Firth said. The collection goal of 19,000 second fridges will reduce NSW greenhouse gas emissions by more than 152,000 tonnes per year the equivalent of taking more than 30,000 cars off the road.
Parramatta City Council urges residents with working 2nd fridges that meet the above conditions to call Fridge Buyback on 1800 708 401 during business hours or visit Fridge Buybacks website www.fridgebuyback.com.au to arrange for their fridges to be collected.
