What You Can Do (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle)
In the home and office
In the Home
- Avoid packaged food
- Carry your own reusable shopping bags
- Buy quality goods that last
- Get friendly with your local secondhand shops and the local charity organisations
- Fix things as they wear out or break
- Compost your organic waste.
- Recycle all paper and cardboard.
- Buy only recyclable plastics.
- Dispose of chemicals safely: call the Clean-Out Info Hotline on 1300 787 870.
In the Office
- Use recycled content stationery products rather than virgin stationery products.
- Use both sides of the paper whenever possible and turn scrap paper into notebooks.
- Conduct regular waste audits in the office to help improve the management of waste.
- Ask your supplier about different types of recycled content products available
- Avoid printing everything out whenever possible, use e-mails or online publishing tools.
- Place recycling bins under each desk, and other possible locations where paper will be used, such as near the photocopiers and printers.
- Educate both the staff and the cleaners about the importance of recycling at the workplace and ensure valuable materials are not accidentally discarded.
