Creating a Tree Application Site Plan

A “site map” shows the relative trees for the application and their location within the property. The trees are numbered as per the application. If you don’t have an electronic version of the site plan, there are two simple ways to create the file.

Scan the Plan

If you have a scanner, the easiest way to create the electronic plan is to simply draw the plan on a piece of paper and scan to either JPG, BMP, TIFF or GIF format.

Electronically Draw the Plan

Most people who own a computer have access to Microsoft Paint. The map needs to simply represent the layout of the property and the trees to be inspected. Label the trees you are wanting removed/pruned with the numbers, as per the Tree numbers on your application. Also provide the name of the tree (if known) and the approximate size of the tree in height.

To create a simple site plan using Paint, follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Paint from Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> Paint
  2. Draw the structures on the map by using the RECTANGLE tool
  3. Draw the trees with the ELLIPSE tool
  4. Provide text on the drawing to help the Council representative
  5. Save the image. File >> Save As
  6. File name – Site Plan
  7. Save as type >> JPEG
