Retention and Expansion of Ferry Service Between Sydney CBD and Parramatta
To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales Assembled in the NSW Parliament.
This Petition of Citizens of New South Wales draws to the attention of the House our wish that you reject the Walker Report to the NSW State Government, which suggested that the RiverCat service between Sydney CBD and Parramatta be cut.
At a time of significant growth for Parramatta and Western Sydney, Sydney Ferries should be providing an improved and efficient commuter service rather than cutting the existing one.
A commuter ferry service is vital and will provide:
- better transport for our fast growing resident population and employment sector
- improved links to the suburbs along the Parramatta River
- an alternative to the bus, train and car
- less pressure on an already congested public transport system
- a boost for tourism to one of the most historically significant riverside sites in Australia
The undersigned petitioners therefore ask the Members of the Legislative Assembly to reject recommendation 1301 of the Walker Report: “that existing ferry services on the Upper Parramatta River, between Rydalmere and Parramatta, are discontinued”.
Further, we urge the members of the NSW State Government to support our campaign and have this vital Western Sydney ferry service retained and expanded.
