Dr Robert Lang has been appointed as the next General Manager of Parramatta City Council. Dr Lang, currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, moves to Parramatta City Council in July, following a distinguished track record as a company director and chief executive in both the public and private sectors.
“Dr Lang has all the skills we were looking for and his appointment is the next step in the City’s bright and challenging future. He brings with him a wealth of management experience, strong leadership and organisational vision gained in roles outside local government,” the Lord Mayor, Cr Paul Barber said.
“Dr Lang has proven experience and delivery in a range of areas that are pertinent to Parramatta such as – a commitment to sound financial management, fiscal responsibility, comprehensive community consultation, heritage and tourism development, and environmental sustainability. He will greatly enhance our ability to fully implement our strategic Parramatta Twenty25 plan,” the Lord Mayor said.
As CEO of SHFA, Dr Lang guided the Authority through a period of significant change and achievement over the last five years. Dr Lang was responsible for its functions in place management and development, heritage conservation, community enhancement, urban renewal and tourism in prime locations around Sydney Harbour.
Dr Lang worked closely with the State Government and a wide range of public and private sector partners to deliver a major business transformation at the Authority, making it a triple-bottom-line sustainable business.
“It is a privilege to be appointed as General Manager of Parramatta City Council and I look forward to bringing my experience to the world of local government, particularly in a city that is a rapidly growing business and cultural centre of Sydney.” Dr Lang said.
“I have lived most of my life in Western Sydney and I look forward to seeing Parramatta city capitalise on its potential to be at the forefront of 21st Century social and urban renewal,” Dr Lang said.
Dr Lang holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (1st Class Honours), a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science and a PhD in Electrical Engineering. He is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was previously the Chief Executive of Pacific Power, an energy services business covering Australia and Asia.
