Parramatta Lord Mayor Joins Fight Against Granville Sub Station
06 Nov 2009
The Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Paul Garrard has thrown his weight behind the Granville Action Group, opposing the proposed sub-station in Elizabeth Street Granville.
“The site is totally inappropriate for a sub station and makes a mockery of neighbourhood style living”, Cr Garrard said.
“The residents of our city have been dealt a savage blow.
“Substations and residential communities are not compatible.
“This is another example of State bureaucratic nonsense over-ruling the wishes of good citizens who have struggled to buy their home and raise a family.
“The recent comments by the Minister for Energy Mr John Robertson, in rejecting the claim that there will be health risks associated with the proposed station, was a totally unhelpful answer.
“I support the position proposed by the action group leader, Neil Harbridge in opposing this development, and will be promoting the cancellation of the project with Integral.
“The whole process of consultation with the local community was haphazard and the methods employed obviously flawed”, said Cr Garrard.
