The Lady Mayoress Paints the Town Pink
15 Oct 2009
The Lady Mayoress of Parramatta - Karen Garrard, has thrown her support behind the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Pink Ribbon Day by hosting a range of community awareness events including a Breast Cancer Fundraising Breakfast on Monday 26 October at Parramatta’s Church Street Mall between 7 and 10am.
To highlight the Lady Mayoress’ campaign, Parramatta Town Hall will be decorated pink and until the end of October, Pink Ribbon merchandise will be on sale at Council’s administration building, in front of the Town Hall, Council Chambers, Council’s libraries and at Parramatta’s Farmers’ Market. The Council’s website too has adopted pink ribbons to demonstrate its support to the cause.
“Breast cancer is not discriminative and has become one of the most common cancers amongst women in Australia,” said Mrs Garrard.
“We all know a mum, wife, sister or girlfriend that has been struck by breast cancer,” said Karen, who can personally relate to the impacts of this disease, as her mother has breast cancer. “Finding a cure and raising awareness about the importance of early detection is a matter of urgency,” she said.
“The Breast Cancer Fundraising Breakfast is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get behind this cause. I invite the community and businesses of Parramatta to join me and support the fundraising efforts whole heartedly,” she said.
Mini Dutch pancakes, strawberries and cream, pink and white cupcakes and pink lemonade will be on sale at the Breast Cancer Fundraising Breakfast.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $2 in front of the Town Hall with a host of prizes to be won, courtesy of the local Parramatta businesses community.
El-Phoenician Restaurant will provide two dinners for two, The Meat and Wine Co at Parramatta will provide a $50 voucher, San Churro a chocolate hamper valued at $50, Coco Spa has offered a $100 pamper voucher while Regeneration Health Spa is giving one lucky winner the complete Spa Experience Package valued at $165.
Riverside Theatre is also providing two tickets to the theatre and Parramatta City Council will provide a hamper valued at $100.
