PARRAMATCH – Social Innovation Crowdfunding Campaign

The Parramatch Crowdfunding campaigns have begun!

Parramatch has uncovered some amazing new ideas which aim to create a range of positive social outcomes across our community. Each Parramatch project shows that we have a creative, caring and inspiring community who really want to make a difference, and we want you to be involved.

Each project has developed a crowdfunding campaign with our partner StartSomeGood and is seeking a small contribution from lots of members of our community to get their project off the ground.

City of Parramatta Council has committed $30,000 to match pledged funds—so help your favourite project be the first one to $1,000, $5,000 or $10,000 and that campaign will receive a bonus donation from Council. This could effectively double your donation!

Get on board by heading to StartSomeGood to pledge to your favourite project. Show your support and get friends involved by sharing on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

What is Crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a way of mobilising support (particularly financial) to get ideas and projects off the ground by seeking a whole heap of smaller donations, typically via the internet. You simply get onto the campaign page for the project you like and pledge your donation. You can support a project with as little as $10. Every pledge, no matter how big or small, is recognised by the campaign and there is even a reward for donating that is unique to the campaign you support.

The Campaigns

The campaigns will run from Friday, 7 November 2014 until Friday, 5 December 2014. Your donation must be pledged in this time to be counted towards the project and fund matching through Parramatch.

Supporting these projects will mean important social issues are addressed, creating positive outcomes for the Parramatta community.

  • The Ougies, Parrafit, a project that brings the community of Parramatta together to get fit and healthy, improves quality of life and promotes positive community interaction.
  • Down Syndrome Association of NSW, Show Off, an annual arts festival in Parramatta featuring performers and artists with a disability. For the first time the festival will also be run by people with a disability.
  • Community Migrant Resource Centre, Seeing Summer, a space for young people from South Sudanese and Afghan communities to tell their stories through photography.
  • Hume Community Housing Association Ltd, Breaking Brick Walls, a project using education as an innovative way to empower unemployed youth, assisting them with the transition to the workforce or further education.
  • Rydalmere Community Hub, Rydalmere Multicultural Arts and Crafts Space, a free art and craft program which creates a welcoming space for migrant women to break down social barriers and learn new skills.
  • FORM Dance Projects, Fast + Fresh Dance Project, an opportunity for young dancers to create and perform a new dance work, while being mentored and encouraged to reach their potential.
  • Darcy St Project, a social enterprise using coffee culture to create employment and learning opportunities while also working towards making Parramatta a coffee culture capital.

Join Council in supporting these campaigns by heading to the StartSomeGood website and pledging your support today.
