Parramatta Civic Place Redevelopment Consultation
City Council is rapidly developing comprehensive plans to demolish and rebuild much of the Civic Place precinct, as a focal hub for our City.
Parramatta City Council is rapidly developing comprehensive plans to demolish and rebuild much of the Civic Place precinct, as a focal hub for our City.
The new buildings intended are:
- Major new Council Library
- Community Rooms & Facilities
- Council Chambers & Offices
- Civic open space
- Other facilities and buildings
- Our historic Town Hall will be retained as a key building.
As part of this planning, it is imperative that Council obtains good advice from interested residents on their experience, ideas and perspectives about this Civic Place redevelopment. A comprehensive survey detailing project options and prospects, and seeking broad-ranging and detailed feedback from our residents through the Residents’ Panel.
These represent a good cross-section of our resident community, who will use buildings and public open spaces comprising this exciting new Civic precinct. Added to those residents, will be feedback from many hundreds of Library and other Civic facility users, with whom Council keeps in touch.
Survey commences 19 November closing 1 December 2009
In this way, a good range and depth of ideas can be gleaned, analysed and presented to guide Council and its architects. Information about the Civic Place redevelopment project can be found at http://www.parracity.nsw.gov.au/council/civic_place
Research Objectives
The purpose of the survey is to understand if the correct facilities are being provided and to design facilities to function in a way to that will maximise use. Questions include their current use of facilities in the Civic Place area, plus likely future use of similar or augmented facilities, including multi-use designs to optimise use and costs.
Major Findings
The comprehensive survey completed in December 2009 yielded 1004 responses from the Residents Panel and the broader community.
Currently this information is being used by Council's contracted architects and Council's Civic Place team in the designing phase of the project. This will help to ensure adoption of high quality, user-driven designs for a major new Council Library, Community Rooms & Facilities, Council Chambers & Offices, public open spaces, plus other facilities and buil.dings that will comprise Parramatta's Civic Place redevelopment.
Outcomes
Council is still in the process of applying the information collected in the design of the Civic Place project. To view the current visualisation of Civic Place please go to the following page (http://www.parracity.nsw.gov.au/council/civic_place)
