Parramatta Peer Support provides recreation and social activities in the community for adults with a disability People get to socialise and enjoy new experiences. The service can also provide respite for carers.

Peer Support service offers the person with a disability an opportunity to participate in community based recreation activities in a group situation. This allows the person to broaden their experience, and friendships and can provide regular respite for families. Examples of activities: Theatre, movies, dinner, sporting activities.

People who are eligible for this service must:

  • Have a moderate physical and/or intellectual disability
  • Be aged over 18 years of age
  • Live in the Parramatta LGA

The activities occur after hours (in the evenings from 5:30pm) on:

  • Tuesday nights (for people with physical disabilities) with individualised activities
  • Thursday nights (for people with intellectual disabilities) for group activities.

People are required to pay their own expenses, including admission to venues and meals. In addition a service fee is charged to the participant each time they attend. The service fee of $10.00 is billed weekly.
The cost of meals is reviewed annually in the schedule of fees and charges. (page 25 - 9.12)

Peer Support receives funding from state and federal Government through the Home and Community Care Program administered by the Department of Ageing Disability and Homecare.
