Parramatta City Council’s Smoking in Public Places Policy prohibits smoking in the following Council owned and managed spaces:
- In and within 10 metres of children’s playground areas

- Within 10m of aquatic centres
- Outdoor dining areas on Council owned or managed land (for these areas the policy came into effect on 1 May 2012.)
Parramatta City Council’s Smoking in Public Places Policy reflects its commitment to protecting members of the community from the health and social impacts of second hand cigarette smoke.
Parramatta City Council is one of more than 30 pro-active councils in metropolitan Sydney that have introduced a policy that restricts smoking in public places.
Parramatta City Council is currently involved in legal proceedings, initiated by a small group of business people who have challenged the implementation of the Smoking in Public Places Policy. Through these legal proceedings this small group of business people are seeking to prevent the operation of the Smoking in Public Places policy at the 9 outdoor dining areas associated with their business only.
To assist in the speedy resolution of the legal proceedings Parramatta City Council has agreed to take no enforcement action at these 9 locations only as an interim measure pending an urgent hearing before the Court on 10 May 2012.
