Compost and Worm Farming
You may not be able to put your veggie food scraps into your garden organics bin, but it is still easy to dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way and boost your garden at the same time. If you have some outside space, enlisting the help of some garden critters and using a composting bin or heap can transform your grass clippings and food scraps into a rich soil-like compost.
Even if you have a unit balcony you can still use a worm farm. Your wriggly friends will eat most fruits and veggie scraps leaving you with a nutrient-rich juice and castings that your plants will love.
Worm farms and compost bins can be purchased through Council, compost bins cost $53.00 and worm farms cost $75.00. (Note: the worms are not supplied with the worm farms and will need to be bought separately from a nursery.)
For more information on worm farms and composting please contact Parramatta City Council on 9806 5050. Alternatively, you can download the key related documents that may answer your questions on worm farming and composting.
