Description

Discover the sights, sounds and flavours of Thailand as Parramatta foreshore explodes with colour and energy at the annual celebration of Loy Krathong.

As Sydney’s largest water festival, Loy Krathong will see a host of entertainment, arts & crafts, exhibitions and workshops showcasing the tradition and culture of Thailand.

Among the highlights of the festival is the ‘Krathong’ ritual at sunset, transforming the river into a visually stunning waterscape. Hundreds of lotus-shaped vessels will be launched onto the water in a ritual believed to carry away bad luck and bring good fortune for the coming year.

With plenty of delicious food outlets and a spectacular fireworks display, there will be lots for the whole family to enjoy including:

How to get there

The best way to travel is by public transport.

  • By Bus
    Parramatta is well served by local buses which all use the interchange on Argyle Street.
  • By Train
    Parramatta is serviced by most major and local train lines. Parramatta River is a 10 minute walk from the station.
  • By Ferry
    The Parramatta River service travels between Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Parramatta Wharf on Saturdays between 7am and 7pm, the journey takes approx. 1 hour, 20 mins. The ferry arrives at Parramatta Wharf on Charles St along the river foreshore.

  • By Car
    Parramatta is 24km from central Sydney with good road connections including Parramatta Road, Victoria Road, and the M4 Motorway. From Western Sydney take the Great Western Hwy, M4, Old Windsor Road, Woodville Road or Cumberland Hwy.
    Lennox Bridge, David Frater and Erby Place car parks are all on Phillip Street just moments from Church Street. Other car parks include Horwood Place, Hunter Street and Wentworth Street.
  • On Foot
    Stroll down to the river foreshore accessible from Lennox St Bridge off Church St, Barry Wilde Bridge off Wilde Ave and Phillip St, Elizabeth Street Footbridge and from Charles St.
