Waste-Wise Winners Recognised By Council

Waste-conscious residents who took part in Parramatta City Council’s Postcard Competition were awarded their prizes by Lord Mayor Councillor Paul Garrard yesterday.

As part of National Recycling Week, the Postcard Competition, themed ‘Waste-Wise and Win, Don’t Contaminate Your Bin’, asked residents to answer questions on the back of a mailed postcard describing the best ways to recycle.

“Planet Ark’s National Recycling Week is a great initiative and Parramatta City Council is once again proud to support this event,” said Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Paul Garrard.

“Our postcard competition, which asked residents to answer questions about contamination in their recycling bins, was a great success with over 1700 entries received.

“I’d like to congratulate the lucky winners and also thank the businesses which showed their support for National Recycling Week by donating so many great prizes,” he said.

National Recycling Week is celebrated annually to promote the environmental benefits of recycling. This year’s program runs from 9 - 15 November with many community events being held through out NSW.

As park of its National Recycling Week activities Parramatta City Council also hosted the Big Aussie Swap. This program encourages the community to swap their unwanted items rather then throwing them out.
