Parramatta Eels Street Parade

Irrespective of the result of the NRL Grand Final on Sunday, Parramatta City Council believes the Parramatta Eels are winners and to celebrate their success in the 2009 season, the Parramatta Eels Street Parade will be held in the heart of Parramatta - along Church Street - on Tuesday, 6 October from 12.30 pm to 1.45 pm.

Eels parade map“It’s a huge responsibility our players bare – but they have shown themselves to be true ambassadors for Parramatta and regardless of the outcome on Sunday – it’s fair to say that they have done us proud,” said an elated Lord Mayor of Parramatta City Council, Cr Paul Garrard.

Cheerleaders, a marching band, junior rugby players, gymnasts, street performers and even the NSW Fire Brigade will join the Parramatta Eels players in the parade as hundreds of cheering fans give our glorious boys a rousing congratulation for their success.

The Parade, which will commence at the Lennox Bridge and proceed south along Church Street to the Town Hall, will see the local community and Eels fans lining the streets.

To allow for the safe staging of this parade, barriers will be installed along the entire length of Church Street, to the Market Street intersection.

Installation will commence at 10.30am and traffic will be permitted along Church Street until 12.30pm. Parking will not be permitted on Church Street from 10.30am until after the parade.

Traffic flow along Macquarie, Phillip, George and Market streets will continue until the commencement of the parade at 12.30pm. Normal traffic conditions will resume at the completion of the parade at approximately 1pm.

Parade spectators are encouraged to use public transport. Buses will not access Church Street, using Smith Street as an alternative route from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Bus passengers are advised to use the Parramatta Transport Interchange.

“Everyone is invited to sing our boys home and applaud them for playing with such determination and form. A win at the Grand Final will be such sweet victory, one we know our boys in blue and gold can do,” he said.
