Australia Day Community Awards now open!

06 Dec 2011

Parramatta City Council is encouraging the local community to nominate Parramatta’s most inspirational, outstanding citizens for a prestigious Australia Day Award.

The Awards recognise people who help make Parramatta a better place to live. Award categories include Senior Citizen of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year and Community Project of the Year.

“Each Australia Day we recognise the contributions of local people to our community. If you have a friend, relative or mentor who inspires you in some away, consider nominating them," said the Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Lorraine Wearne.

"You might know someone who is making a strong contribution to the local community, whether it is through volunteering, helping keep the environment clean or inspiring others through their community work.”

Other achievements that would be considered for nominations include sporting, cultural, scholarly achievements, acts of bravery, kindness or generosity, or contributions to indigenous people.

Nominations close on 9 January 2012 so download a form from Council's website or call Council and we can send a form out to you.

“I encourage everyone to get thinking and help Council highlight the achievements of community-minded people. The Community Awards are a great way to show our appreciation for the hard work of our local residents,” said Cr Wearne.

For a nomination form contact Council on 9806 5000 or visit www.parracity.nsw.gov.au.
