Hunter Street Social to get lunchtime crowd bopping
12 Dec 2011
Everyone is invited to experience some funky riffs, beats and twangs as part of the week-long Hunter Street Social lunchtime event which starts today, Monday 12 December, out the front of Parramatta Artists Studios (45 Hunter Street, Parramatta).
Presented by Parramatta Artists Studios in partnership with the Cultural Arts Collective, the event will take place daily from 12.30pm – 1.30pm, and will feature an exciting line-up of talent, including a performance from whistling world champion, Asim Gorashi.
There will also be an African drumming session, energetic tabla players, and performances from NAFAS, who recently headlined the Parramasala Festival.
“Hunter Street Social will provide a unique cultural experience for visitors and workers in Parramatta,” said Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Lorraine Wearne.
“It will activate the small area outside the Parramatta Artists Studios with the sounds of Western Sydney’s performing artists, creating a great opportunity to socialise with the Parramatta crowd,” said Cr Wearne.
Local creative collective Unknown Quantity, will be at the event, using colourful recycled materials to create floral artworks. Everyone will be invited to make their own flower, which will contribute to the growth of a larger sustainable garden installation that will be part of Sydney Festival in January 2012.
Parramatta Artists Studios is an initiative of Parramatta City Council. It supports the sustainability of local artistic practice through the provision of affordable studio space, innovative exhibitions and events and professional development opportunities.
The Hunter Street Social is a free event. For more information about Hunter Street Social, contact the Parramatta Artists Studios on 9687 6090.
