Ideas on Edge site coming to fruition
05 Dec 2011
A unique opportunity to transform the Parramatta River Foreshore with premium high rise apartments, an iconic Discovery Centre including multi-function spaces and a public domain is on offer, with Parramatta City Council accepting Request for Proposals for the development of a waterfront site.
Once developed, the prime project site, located between Lennox and Bernie Banton Bridge, will be buzzing with activity, with events, public art, retail and an exhibition space.
“The concept for the site stems from our Ideas on Edge competition that Council ran earlier this year, which attracted submissions from all over the world,” said the Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Lorraine Wearne.
“The site was chosen for its ability to provide a significant economic benefit to our community, stimulate further development and provide a significant public domain benefit.
“It’s connected to transport, shopping facilities and Parramatta’s thriving dining precinct, ‘Eat Street’,” said Cr Wearne.
“This development will capture our City’s relationship with the River, take advantage of Parramatta’s waterfront access and open up the area to business, culture and social life.
“This is an exciting time for Parramatta, and Council looks forward to seeing our foreshore transformed into a vibrant space that will be cherished by residents and visitors.”
Council will accept Requests for Proposals until 2pm, 2 March 2012. For more information, visit www.tenderlink.com/parracity or contact Council on 9806 5000.
