Don your warm, cosy clothes and prepare for Winterlight, a new and exciting winter event that will transform Church Street Mall, Parramatta, into a bustling winter wonderland.

“The city is already home to many major events each year and we are delighted to celebrate the inaugural Winterlight event, which is sure to create a pseudo-European winter experience,” Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr John Chedid, said.

“Families and their children will simply love the outdoor ice rink and the assortment of delicious hot food treats and entertainment,” Cr Chedid, said.

Winterlight is a first for Parramatta and will feature an attractive, large open air ice rink operating right in the heart of Church Street Mall during the July school holidays.

While the ice rink is the centrepiece of the experience, beautiful lighting, installations and décor will also be used to create a sense of entering a new world, along with roving live music performances, stilt walkers and daring fire-eaters.

The festival will also offer themed stalls, winter activities for children, as well as an assortment of food outlets selling sweet Dutch pancakes, creamy hot chocolate, soothing warm soup and more.

“Winter is the time for comfort and good food, so I encourage everyone to put on their warm winter clothes, come together and enjoy the festivities in Church Street Mall,” Cr Chedid, said.

“Everyone is invited to attend the opening night from 6pm on Thursday 30 June 2011 at Church Street Mall, Parramatta, featuring live music and ice skating performances,” he said.
