Film premiere raises curtain on India’s social justice revolutionary
02 Nov 2011
Join Lord Mayor of Parramatta, Cr Lorraine Wearne, for the annual Lord Mayor’s Film Premiere. Yes Madam, Sir will screen at Riverside Theatres on Wednesday 23 November 2011, at 7pm.
“I am delighted to be hosting the fourth Lord Mayor’s Film Premiere at Riverside Theatres, and to showcase the powerful and memorable story of Yes Madam, Sir,” said Cr Wearne.
“Providing our community with a range of exciting cultural events is a Council priority. Holding the Australian theatrical premiere of Yes Madam, Sir, is not only another great film for our local community to enjoy, but continues to showcase our City’s culturally-diverse events program,” said Cr Wearne.
Narrated by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, Yes Madam, Sir is an epic story profiling, Asia Nobel Prize winner and one of India’s most notable social justice revolutionaries, Kiran Bedi.
The inspiring non-fiction feature film by award-winning Australian filmmaker, Megan Doneman, follows Bedi who was deified by millions for her commitment to social justice and her public stance against corruption. Through exclusive scenes of Bedi on the job as India’s most controversial police officer, intimate home scenes with her father and daughter and tender moments with her estranged husband, the filmmaker’s uncensored access unravels the truth behind the icon.
The true drama lies not in Bedi’s extraordinary actions but in the inherent contradictions in her character. Packed with heart, Yes Madam, Sir is a roller coaster ride of the triumph and frustration, fame and infamy, comedy and tragedy, passion and pain of a sole leader. Yes Madam, Sir also provides an insight into a lawmaker who becomes a law unto herself.
Yes Madam, Sir is proudly presented by Parramatta City Council in association with Antidote Films, Titan View and Sojourn Films.
