Save Our Suburbs

Save our suburbs petition

There are over 50 State Environmental Planning Policies (SEPPs), all of which over-ride local planning instruments. This means that the development can take place even though it does not comply with our local planning guidelines.

Parramatta City Council will erect three-metre high, steel signs aimed at ‘Saving Our Suburbs’ from inappropriate and unsupported development and highlighting the importance of increased local consultation and the possible impact of development that is approved that does not comply with the local planning guidelines.

These signs will be displayed across more than 30 development sites throughout the Parramatta area which have been approved by the State Government, some without Council or key stakeholder engagement.

What Council is calling for:

  • Future state developments must be consistent with local planning guidelines
  • All state developments should have a comprehensive consultation plan in place so communities can have an ongoing involvement.
  • State Government must partner with Council to provide extra infrastructure, such as footpaths, car-parking, community services and open spaces to support any increased growth.

Council will also write to its local State Members highlighting these concerns and is encouraging residents to support Council by filling in their details below.

We want our communities to be able to have a voice when it comes to the future of their own neighbourhood – local development must require local input – it’s that simple!
