Council Meetings

Members of the public are welcome to attend Council meetings. Two Council meetings are held each month, on the second and fourth Monday commencing at 6.45pm. Meetings are held on the fourth floor of the Council Chamber building in Civic Place.

The Council meeting on the second Monday of the month considers regulatory matters only (eg Development Applications). The Council meeting on the fourth Monday considers all other program areas apart from regulatory issues.

Council’s business papers can be viewed from the Thursday before each meeting on Council’s website, at all branch libraries, and the Customer Contact Centre at Council’s 30 Darcy Street office. Copies are also available for viewing at the Council meeting. For more details, call 9806 5314 Council Support

For all civic relations enquiries including special civic events and protocol issues, call our Civic Relations and Protocol Officer on 9806 5349.

Citizenship Information

There are a number of steps to gaining Australian Citizenship. Firstly, you need to meet certain requirements such as having permanent residency of Australia and the ability to speak and understand basic English.

You then need to complete a Citizenship Application form and submit it with payment to your nearest office of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs. An interview will follow later to assess your eligibility.

On acceptance of your application, you will receive a letter from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to let you know where and when your ceremony will be held.

Most of our ceremonies are held in the Parramatta Town Hall and are presided over by the Lord Mayor.

In order to gain Citizenship, successful applicants must attend a Citizenship ceremony (except children under 16). Once you make the Australian Citizenship pledge, you will be awarded your Certificate of Australian Citizenship which is legal proof that you are an Australian citizen. You should also complete an electoral enrolment form registering you to vote. Voting is compulsory in Australia.
