Parks and Recreation

“From the smallest park to the river foreshore, the City of Parramatta’s open space network will offer its residents, workers and visitors an appealing, accessible and sustainable resource; one that conserves and reflects the landscape’s significant natural qualities, offers recreational opportunities for all and builds on the City’s rich heritage.”

Parramatta City Council provides a vast range of sporting and recreational opportunities to enhance the lifestyles of our residents and experiences for workers and visitors. The city contains a diverse and extensive network of 300 parks and reserves covering approximately 720 hectares. This open space system varies considerably from significant bushland areas and linear open space along extensive creek systems to formal parks and sportsgrounds. Parramatta’s varying topography, geology, and climatic variations ensure that its natural areas contain a high diversity of ecological communities and native species, particularly near our waterways.

We also coordinate leisure-based events throughout the year such as the Parramatta Pool Open Day. Council also undertakes recreation planning and preparation of plans of management for community land.
