Parramatta City Council’s Neighbour Aid is a volunteer-based  service that provides companionship and social support for people to remain independent, participate in community life and help people to increase and maintain meaningful relationships..

People who are eligible for this service are:

  • people who are older and frail
  • people with disabilities
  • carers
  • live within Parramatta Local Government Areas

Neighbour Aid receives funding from state and federal Government through the Home and Community Care Program administered by Ageing, Disability and Homecare, Department of Community Services NSW.

This service organises trained volunteers to visit people at their home or go out for coffee for a few hours each week, providing companionship to those who are isolated or in need of social support.

Activity specific groups such as book club, movie club are also available to provide an opportunity to make new friends and go to the community.

Further examples of services:

  • Volunteers may be able to assist in reading mail, books, newspapers.
  • This service encourages people to get out and about, making friends.
