Waterways and Catchment Management
Parramatta City Council has embarked on a program to manage and improve the natural environment, particularly in relation to water and drainage assets. The program aims to address the following issues:
- water quality and aquatic ecosystem health
- stormwater pollution
- flood mitigation and floodplain risk
- stream and riparian management
- biodiversity conservation
- recreation and foreshore use
- water conservation and water reuse

- Ponds Subiaco Creek Waterways Rehabilitation Masterplan
- Evaluation of community uptake for Council's Rainwater Tank Program
- Parramatta River Foreshore Plan Review
- Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Terrys Creek and Eastwood town centre
- Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Duck River catchment
- Parramatta River Estuary Data Compilation Study
- Environmental Trust Grant - Sustaining the Parramatta River ($1.9M grant with 6 other councils) including the retrofit of Parramatta and Guildford town centres with water sensitive urban design
- Construction of fish passage ways (fish ladders) on four Parramatta River weirs and associated interpretative signage
Future Works
- Environmental Trust Grant - Sustainable Water Management in the Duck River catchment ($1.8M grant with Auburn and Bankstown Councils) including liaison with Sydney Water on the use of recycled effluent for irrigation of open space
- Parramatta sea wall restoration Stage 2
- Water Safety Plan for Lake Parramatta
- Review of Waterways Improvement Program for a further 4 years (2009/10 - 2012/13)
