Parramatta Town Hall

History

Based in the heart of the “City of Parramatta”, this 2 storey Victorian Free Classical Civic building was built on the site marked out by Governor Phillip for a market in his plan for Parramatta. A market fair was held here in 1813. It was later the site of the annual feast for Aborigines first held by Governor Macquarie which continued from 1816-1830. This Town Hall designed by GA Mansfield and built by Hart and Lavors was begun in 1881 and opened in 1883. The Council Coat of Arms showing Aboriginal spearing eels from the river, appeared over the doorway, and above this was inscribed “Town Hall, CJ Byrnes, Mayor, 1880”. Various additions have been made to accommodate Council, citizens and visitors but the original building is still serving Parramatta as its Town Hall.

Parramatta Town Hall Floor Plan

Main Hall

Located in the heart of Parramatta City, this majestic venue has been restored with meticulous detail and provides the perfect venue for exhibitions, fairs, product launches, conferences, seminars and general meetings for up to 300 people, with additional seating upstairs in the gallery for a further 100 people. It also comfortably seats 200 people for the more formal wedding reception or official ceremony. Its high ceilings and tallow wood floor complement the proscenium arch and scenery of the stage. The elaborately decorated interior is balanced with the fine details in the woodwork surrounding the hall.

Its large stage area, dressing room, PA system makes it a most suitable venue for a convention or an entertainment event with a back-of-house sound system and microphones available for hire.
